A dishwasher can cut water usage by half or more verses washing by hand but to boost its eco credentials only run it on full, use the eco setting which saves up to 20% of electricity, scrape rather than rinse leftovers from the dishes (pre-rinsing wastes up to 27,000 litres of water a year) and skip the dry cycle, leaving the door open to let the dishes dry instead.
